Types of referrals

Following consultation, your GP/Clinician may decide to refer you elsewhere for specialist assessment.  There are three main referral routes for further specialist assessment and management.

You may be referred to Anglian Community Enterprise (ACE) by your GP/clinician.  ACE are the main provider for all community services including physiotherapy, audiology, musculoskeletal, pain management etc.  You should be contacted direct by this service regarding any appointment.

You can contact them direct on 0300 0032 144 with enquiries.

Alternatively you may be referred to the Hospital through the Choose & Book/Electronic Referral Service by your GP/Clinician where you can book an appointment to see a specialist in your chosen location, where applicable.  You will be asked to collect your booking letter approximately 5 working days after your initial consultation with the GP/Clinician who referred you to enable you to book the hospital and appointment of your choice from the list of providers given.

Fast track/two week wait appointment.  These are urgent appointments to rule out the possibility of malignancy.  If a GP/Clinician is referring you through this pathway they will explain the reasons for and importance of the referral and of attending.  You will either be contacted direct, or an appointment will be posted to you to attend the local hospital for further tests and management within 14 days of seeing your GP.  If you have not been offered an appointment date either by telephone or post within 7 days of attending the surgery, please contact the surgery as soon as possible to speak to a Secretary who will advise you further.
