Mencap: Learning Disability Week, 15th – 21st June 2026

People with a learning disability want to be seen, heard and valued.

  • Only 6% of people with a learning disability are employed – but 86% want a paid job.
  • Over 2,000 people with a learning disability and autistic people are detained in mental health hospitals, often because the right support isn’t available in the community.
  • People with a learning disability die on average 20 years earlier than the general population, around 2 in 5 of those deaths could be avoided.

This isn’t fair. And it needs to change.
